The County class guided missile destroyer Hampshire (1961) in the fitting out basin of John Brown & Co Ltd at Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire. The ship is berthed port side to the quay. The photographer is up on a crane on the quayside looking aft, to starboard and down showing the flight deck, the Seaslug Mark I missile launcher and the quarterdeck. The Westland Wessex HAS.1 helicopter XP156 (1962) 902/HA is on the flight deck and the cover of the missile embarking hatch has been lifted and laid on the deck alongside the helicopter. Three other small square hatches on the flight deck are also open. Men are painting the quarterdeck using long handled rollers and hand brushes.
