The County class guided missile destroyer Hampshire (1961) in the fitting out basin of John Brown & Co Ltd at Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire. The ship is berthed port side to the quay. The photographer is on a raised position on the quayside looking aft and to starboard from 01 deck level showing the flight deck, the Seaslug Mark I missile launcher and the quarterdeck. The Westland Wessex HAS.1 helicopter XP156 (1962) 902/HA is on the flight deck. A small square hatch on the port side of the flight deck is open. In the left background is the stern of the Cunard vessel Franconia (1955), ex Ivernia, converting to a dual purpose transatlantic liner and cruise ship and against the riverside berth is the Royal Navy frigate Aurora (1962) in the early stages of fitting out.
