The photographer is in one of three petty officer's messes forward on 1 deck: a mess for 21 men between 50 and 58 stations on the starboard side, a mess for 33 men between 58 and 71 stations on the port side and a mess for 33 men between 58 and 72 stations on the starboard side. Five easy chairs are facing an electric fire which has a drinks unit next to it. A leaf patterned screen and a triple tier bunk unit numbered 1, 2 and 3 are against an inboard bulkhead which also has a door in it.
