On board the County class guided missile destroyer Hampshire (1961) in the fitting out basin of John Brown & Co Ltd at Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire. The photographer is in the engineer's fitting shop between 78 and 84 stations on the starboard side of 3 deck looking forward showing a workbench against the starboard bulkhead equipped with three Fortis F4 vices. Steel cupboards, a telephone and a key cabinet are against the port bulkhead. A duckboard is on the deck. The wire mesh door to the electrical fitting shop is in the forward bulkhead and a large pigeon hole storage nest is alongside the door. The same image as negative number N38676. On Admiralty plans (see negatives numbers N17738 and N17792) the two spaces between 78 and 84 stations on the starboard side of 3 deck are shown as the common machine shop inboard with the engineer's fitting shop outboard but the builders have fitted out the inboard space as the engineer's fitting shop and the outboard space as the common machine shop.
