On board the Swedish cruise ship Gripsholm (1925) off the West 57th Street Pier on the Hudson River at New York. The photographer is on the starboard side of the forward end of the promenade deck looking forward and to starboard showing crew members lining the forecastle rails. The ship is dressed overall as she approaches the Swedish American Line 57 Street Pier and a large number of people are on the spectators balcony at the end of the pier. A Prince Line ship is alongside one of the piers in the background.
