The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is in the crew's mess between 45 and 58 stations on 3 deck looking aft on the centreline showing the open recreation space in the centre with triple tier bunk units on either side. By the aft bulkhead is an open hatch leading down to 4 deck and on either side of the hatch are utensil lockers. A transformer, fuse panels, a notice board, a bracket for stowing an electric iron, a clock reading 10.04 and two loudspeakers are against the aft bulkhead.
