On board the County class guided missile destroyer London (1961) alongside the fitting out berth at the Neptune Works of Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson Ltd at Wallsend-on-Tyne. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is in the refrigerating machinery space between 128 and 136 stations on the port side of 3 deck looking forward showing a watchkeeper's desk alongside some racks containing numbered boxes of spare parts. No. 2 machine is in the centre of the space with No. 1 machine further forward. Both machines were manufactured by J E Hall Ltd of Dartford. A steel workbench with a cupboard and four drawers under and a Fortis F6 vice fixed to it is against the forward bulkhead. The machinery starter panel is against the starboard bulkhead.
