Greenwich Pensioners
One of a series of prints of seamen and shipping by Atkinson, on which see PAD7785 for further information. One man is sitting on a bench to the left by the corner of a masonry wall, with a crutch leaning on the seat beside him. The other, with a left peg-leg and stick, stands talking to him. Railings stretch from the wall corner behind towards a building in the right distance, with two other Pensioners conversing in back view, one also with a peg-leg. Beyond the railings the masts of shipping are visible, suggesting this is intended to be the Greenwich riverfront immediately adjacent to the Hospital. Stored in mount with another copy, PAD7776. For an uncoloured large-sheet impression see PAH3301.
