On board the County class guided missile destroyer London (1961) alongside the fitting out berth at the Neptune Works of Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson Ltd at Wallsend-on-Tyne. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is in an unknown machinery compartment below decks. In the foreground is a petrol or diesel driven machine manufactured by Weir, possibly a compressor, with a fuel tank mounted on top and fitted with a Burgess wet type air filter. Three pressure gauges reading 0-400, 0-1500 and 0-2500 are fitted to the machine. On the bulkhead above are a magnetic amplifier and a William White (Switchgear) Ltd starter panel. In the corner are a Ruston & Hornsby console, a Westinghouse rectifier and a starter panel.
