On board the Type 12 general purpose frigate Plymouth (1959) alongside the south side of number 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard at the end of a modernization which commenced in August 1966. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is in the passageway at 17-21½ stations on 2 deck looking aft showing the Fellows Bros Ltd of Cradley Heath lifting gear above the hull outfit 20 (sonar type 174) trunk and tins of finishing gloss are on the trunk hatch. Two fuse panels are against the starboard bulkhead. A group of seamen, one holding a paint pot and brush, are standing ahead of the gun bay bulkhead and against the gun bay is a smoke mask cupboard with hose wound round it. A vertical format negative.
