On board the Type 12 general purpose frigate Plymouth (1959) alongside the south side of number 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard at the end of a modernization which commenced in August 1966. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is in the passageway at 18-21½ stations on 2 deck looking aft showing the senior ratings mess on the left with an automatic emergency lantern next to it and the open hatch leading down to 3 deck. A transformer, fire hose basket, telephone and smoke mask cupboard with air hose wound round it are against the gun bay. A vertical format negative.
