On board the Type 12 general purpose frigate Plymouth (1959) alongside the south side of number 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard at the end of a modernization which commenced in August 1966. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is in the passageway at 22-24 stations on the port side of 2 deck looking aft and to port through the open watertight door at 23 station and an automatic emergency lantern is next to the door. A cold water dispenser is in the right foreground and a noticeboard and a steel ramp are next to it. Notices on the board include NAAFI opening hours, landing of tobacco etc, duty free tobacco etc, use of safety lamps in unventilated compartments, and precautions against fire on board H.M. ships. On the other side of the watertight door are a portable pump and a damage control locker. A vertical format negative.
