On board the Type 12 general purpose frigate Plymouth (1959) alongside the south side of number 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard at the end of a modernization which commenced in August 1966. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is in the helicopter hangar between 49 and 57 stations on the centreline of 1 deck looking to port from 56½ station showing the flying director officer's position next to the partly open hangar door. Control boxes for the landing lights, deck lights, helicopter intercom and hangar door are against the bulkheads and a joystick unit is mounted on the deck. A rectifier and a cable stowage bracket are against the port bulkhead of the hangar. A vertical format negative.
