Glass celestial globe with planetarium

A glass celestial sphere containing a planetarium representing the relative positions and movements of the Sun, Mercury, Venus, the Earth and Moon, Mars, Jupiter with 4 moons, Saturn with rings and 7 moons and Uranus with two moons. The system was driven by geared wheels and a clockwork mechanism, although the latter is now missing.

Astronomical details on the sphere include stars painted on the sphere and connected by dotted lines. The stars are represented by different colours, but an explanatory table is absent. A total of eight stars are named. The constellations are labelled, including the Ptolemaic and a number of non-Ptolemaic ones, however not all of them can be identified due to damage. Geographical details include the Earth inside the sphere and the outlines of land and sea are drawn, but labels are lacking. Symbols of the signs of the zodiac are indicated on the glass sphere, with the four main compass points in French.
