On board the Type 12 general purpose frigate Plymouth (1959) alongside the south side of number 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard at the end of a modernization which commenced in August 1966. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is in the senior rates mess between 61½ and 67 stations on the starboard side of 2 deck looking aft on the port side showing a settee bench and bookshelves against the port bulkhead. A settee bench with suitcases stowed under it, a ventilated food locker, two loudspeakers, a clock reading 10.34 and a Thermotank air conditioning unit are against the aft bulkhead. A bar with two beer taps and an hot water cylinder is on the left. Three easy chairs and two coffee tables with a range of nine ash trays are in the centre. A vertical format negative.
