On board the Type 12 general purpose frigate Plymouth (1959) alongside the south side of number 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard at the end of a modernization which commenced in August 1966. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is in the junior rates mess between 23 and 27 stations on the centreline of 3 deck looking aft and to starboard from the middle of the forward end showing a table and five chairs in the centre. On the right against the 4.5 inch ammunition hoist are an electric fire and a mirror. Against the starboard side are two kit lockers, a full height locker and a double tier bunk unit. A mess locker, three kit lockers, a suitcase rack and a Thermotank air conditioning unit are against the aft bulkhead.
