On board the Type 12 general purpose frigate Plymouth (1959) alongside the south side of number 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard at the end of a modernization which commenced in August 1966. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is in the 1st lieutenant's cabin between 27½ and 30 stations on the starboard side of 1 deck looking to starboard. In the corner is a glass topped double pedestal desk with a Cotswold Student stationery box, a framed photograph of a woman, a filing tray and a telephone on it and photographs are under the glass. A bookshelf and two microphones are above the desk. On the left is a large wardrobe with sliding doors above drawers and an easy chair is in the foreground. Against the aft bulkhead are a cupboard and a Thermotank air conditioning unit.
