On board the Type 12 general purpose frigate Plymouth (1959) alongside the south side of number 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard at the end of a modernization which commenced in August 1966. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is in the engineer officer's cabin between 30 and 32 stations on the starboard side of 1 deck looking to starboard. The access hatch to the fan compartment is in the forward bulkhead with a bookshelf above it. A settee berth and a loudspeaker are against the ship's side and above the settee berth is a framed photograph of a woman. A desk, two telephones and a Thermotank air conditioning unit are against the aft bulkhead.
