The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is in the junior rates mess between 57 and 62½ stations on 3 deck looking to starboard from the port side at the forward end showing kit lockers, a fire extinguisher, stairs up to 2 deck and an open hatch down to 4 deck on the left. Beyond the stairs is a noticeboard fixed to the back of a row of kit lockers and a notice relating to Defence Council Instructions is pinned to the board. Triple tier bunk units are on the right.
