On board the Type 12 general purpose frigate Plymouth (1959) alongside the south side of number 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard at the end of a modernization which commenced in August 1966. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is in the junior rates mess between 57 and 62½ stations on 3 deck looking forward and to starboard showing an open hatch leading down to 4 deck, a cable stowage bracket, an electric fire and a Thermotank air conditioning unit against the forward bulkhead. A triple tier bunk unit is against the starboard side of the ship. A vertical format negative.
