On board the Type 12 general purpose frigate Plymouth (1959) alongside the south side of number 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard at the end of a modernization which commenced in August 1966. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is in the junior rates mess between 57 and 62½ stations on 3 deck looking to port from the starboard side at the aft end showing kit lockers with boots or dirty clothes lockers above them and a Thermotank air conditioning unit against the aft bulkhead. Triple tier bunk units, a suitcase rack and an electric fire are on the right. A vertical format negative.
