On board the Type 12 general purpose frigate Plymouth (1959) alongside the south side of number 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard at the end of a modernization which commenced in August 1966. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is in the engineer's office between 47 and 49 stations on the port side of 2 deck looking aft and to port showing two desks with a Leader diary on the desk on the left. On the desk on the right is the two volume set of Kempe's Engineer's Yearbook for 1963 and above the desk is a full bookshelf. Against the aft bulkhead are three telephones, a telephone control box, an inclinometer, an electric fire, armament and main broadcast speakers, an headset and a Plessey Automation indicating assembly comprising a Mk 5 and a Mk 6 indicating units.
