On board the Type 12 general purpose frigate Plymouth (1959) alongside the south side of number 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard at the end of a modernization which commenced in August 1966. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is in the passageway on 2 deck looking forward and to starboard from 58½ station showing the door to the senior rate's mess on the right. Against the forward bulkhead is a large ventilation trunking fan and locker. Stacks of empty beer firkins are on the deck on the left. A vertical format negative.
