On board the Type 12 general purpose frigate Plymouth (1959) alongside the south side of number 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard at the end of a modernization which commenced in August 1966. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is in the senior rates recreation space between 16 and 18½ stations on the port side of 2 deck looking aft and to starboard showing a settee bench against the aft bulkhead with an electric fire and two framed sketches of ballerinas above it. A small beer dispensing unit above a cupboard is against the starboard bulkhead next to the door and an HMS Plymouth pendant is mounted above the dispenser.
