On board the Type 12 general purpose frigate Plymouth (1959) alongside the south side of number 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard at the end of a modernization which commenced in August 1966. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is in the main communication office between 32½ and 35 stations on the starboard side of 2 deck looking to port and aft showing the control circuit exchange unit against the screen. A transmitter amplifier unit, an outfit KMP(1) exchange telephone radio unit, a retuning unit, two relaying units and a temperature warning panel are against the aft bulkhead.
