On board the Type 12 general purpose frigate Plymouth (1959) alongside the south side of number 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard at the end of a modernization which commenced in August 1966. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is in the main communication office between 32½ and 35 stations on the starboard side of 2 deck looking forward and to starboard showing the rating in charge bay in the foreground with a stencil duplicating machine next to it. Against the forward bulkhead are Bay No. 3 equipped with two Powquip teleprinters, Tactical Bay No. 4 equipped with two Powquip teleprinters, Tactical Bay No. 5 with two control units above a bookshelf and Bay No. 6 with two Powquip teleprinters. A key cabinet, a board of hooks, an MCO communications defects board and a clock reading 10.10 are against the ship's side.
