On board the Type 12 general purpose frigate Plymouth (1959) alongside the south side of number 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard at the end of a modernization which commenced in August 1966. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is looking to port and aft showing the torpedo embarking davit at 49 station on the port side of 1 deck. In the background against the north wall of the basin is the Type 61 aircraft direction frigate Chichester (1955) undergoing a refit. She has scaffolding round her foremast and her hull has an undercoat of paint. A vertical format negative.
