On board the Type 12 general purpose frigate Plymouth (1959) alongside the south side of number 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard at the end of a modernization which commenced in August 1966. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is in the 4.5 inch shell room between 19 and 23 stations on 4 deck looking to port and slightly forward from the forward end showing the dumping platform and rope ladder in the left foreground. Open shelves for the stowage of small arms ammunition are against the ship's side. Shelves for VT fuzes, primers and breech block stowage are against the forward bulkhead and the shell room spray valves are in the right foreground. A vertical format negative.
