On board the Type 12 general purpose frigate Plymouth (1959) alongside the south side of number 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard at the end of a modernization which commenced in August 1966. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is in the senior rates dining hall between 49 and 52½ stations on the starboard side of 2 deck looking to port showing tables with chairs set athwartships. Against the port bulkhead at the forward end are a refrigerator, a Thermotank air conditioning unit, an electric fire, a floor polisher and a clock reading 3.49. The door to the hall has an automatic emergency lantern and a fire extinguisher next to it. On the left is the servery with the roller shutter closed, a cupboard unit and two four-slice electric toasters.
