On board the Type 12 general purpose frigate Plymouth (1959) alongside the south side of number 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard at the end of a modernization which commenced in August 1966. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is in the operations room between 31½ and 35½ stations on 1 deck looking aft and to starboard from 34 station on the centreline showing the navigator's chart table on the right. Against the starboard bulkhead are a telephone, a radiac system detecting assembly manufactured by Plessey Automation, a noticeboard, two safes, a junction box and some signal log files. Against the aft bulkhead are a Decitron loran indicator and a Decitron amplifier detector power supply with a bookshelf above.
