On board the Type 12 general purpose frigate Plymouth (1959) alongside the south side of number 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard at the end of a modernization which commenced in August 1966. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is in the operations room between 31½ and 35½ stations on 1 deck and is said to be looking forward. He is looking at a table with drawers under and on the right end is the outfit KMP(1) socket unit No. 10 G.O.P.O. console and a bookshelf above. Above the table is a display and control unit which includes various switches, a speaker and four display dials for present range, gun range, director bearing indicator and gun true bearing. Also above the table are a clock reading 4.39, an armament communications AG.1 box, an armament broadcast (gunnery section) loudspeaker and what appears to be a camera.
