On board the Type 12 general purpose frigate Plymouth (1959) alongside the south side of number 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard at the end of a modernization which commenced in August 1966. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is in the bridge between 27½ and 31½ stations on 01 deck looking forward on the centreline showing the gyro compass in the centre with two speaking tubes and a microphone fitted to the pedestal. Two compass bearing tape repeaters are under the deckhead. An electric fire, a rudder indicator, speed and distance indicator, depth recorder, pitometer log repeater, azimuth repeater, telephones and telephone control boxes are against the side and front screens.
