On board the Type 12 general purpose frigate Plymouth (1959) alongside the south side of number 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard at the end of a modernization which commenced in August 1966. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is the steering gear compartment between 75 and 80 stations on 3 deck looking forward on the port side showing part of the hydraulic storage tank, the hydraulic pumps pressure indicator panel and the emergency starter for the port steering motor. The wire cage enclosing the steering gear is on the right.
