On board the Type 12 general purpose frigate Plymouth (1959) alongside the south side of number 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard at the end of a modernization which commenced in August 1966. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is in the gun direction platform between 31½ and 33½ stations on the centreline of 02 deck looking forward on the port side showing the gun direction officer's sight on the right. The fire control box is on the left. Against the forward screen are an interphone junction box, a present range receiver, a target indicator gong, a 3" rocket reload button and a broadcast speaker. A seaman is working on the MF/DF coil. Berthed against the east end of the basin is the Royal Fleet Auxiliary store carrier Hebe (1962).
