On board the Type 12 general purpose frigate Plymouth (1959) alongside the south side of number 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard at the end of a modernization which commenced in August 1966. The ship is berthed starboard side to the quay. The photographer is in the gun direction platform between 31½ and 33½ stations on the centreline of 02 deck looking to starboard from the rear of the platform showing the gun direction officer's sight on the left. Against the starboard screen are a small locker, a microphone, a loudspeaker, an angle-fronted box, a fire control circuits push button and a large deck locker. An azimuth repeater is in the starboard forward corner. Part of the building on the quayside is covered with scaffolding and tarpaulins and a poster advertising premium bonds is on the wall.
