On board the Type 12 general purpose frigate Plymouth (1959) alongside the south side of number 3 basin in Chatham Dockyard at the end of a modernization which commenced in August 1966. The ship is berthed starboard side to the wall. the photographer is in the passageway between 15 and 16 stations on 2 deck looking aft and to port showing the closed watertight door at 16 station. In the foreground is the open hatch leading down to 3 deck and above it is an automatic emergency lantern. On the right is the open door to the senior rate's W.C. with a urinal and an automatic emergency lantern just inside the door. A vertical format negative.
