Minnehaha (1857)
A port side, just forward of the beam, view of the cargo ship Minnehaha (1857), aground stern first on rocks and submerged at the bows. The sea is heavily masked with red masking fluid done by the Gibsons for effect on the resulting prints.
The Minnehaha (1857) was wrecked on 18th January 1874 on the Jolly Rocks between Penninis Head and the Pulpit Rock, St Mary's, Scilly. She was carrying a cargo of guano from Peru. The master, pilot, and eight hands drowned. Survivors climbed the rigging and waited until daylight to climb along the yards and on to the shore to safety.
