The submarine Walrus (1959) in No. 6 dry dock at Devonport during her refit from 16 September 1968 to 14 November 1969. She was in the dock from 3 to 20 October 1969. The photographer is on the starboard side of the dock looking forward and to port from the top of the dock abreast the stern. Scaffolding is alongside the aft end of the boat. The stabilising fin is on the left and the starboard propeller blades are wrapped in paper. A number of men are working on the aft deck in way of the escape hatch.
