Photopositive
A square glass plate photopositive of Transit of Venus taken at Rourkee in India in 1874 with one exposure of the planet Venus crossing the Sun's limb. Scratched onto the glass across the Sun's disc and along the top corner of the glass negative reads '1874 Roorkee 91 15h - 58m - 29s. 82'. Guidelines are scratched across the Sun's disc. The negative is marked and scratched in places.
The Roorkee observations were in addition to the official British expeditions, and are described by J.F. Tennant, Report on the preparations for, and observations of the Transit of Venus, as seen at Roorkee and Lahore, on December 8, 1874 (Calcutta, Office of the Superintendent of Government Printing, 1887).
