The type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Zulu (1962) alongside the Alexander Stephen & Sons Ltd fitting out berth at Linthouse, Glasgow during the final stages of building prior to 16 April 1964. The photographer is in the forward 4.5 inch handing room and gun crew's shelter between 37 and 41 stations on 1 deck looking to port and slightly aft from 38½ station on the starboard side showing the shell and cartirdge hoists. The door to the deck store is in the port bulkhead and a transformer, a telephone handset, a loudspeaker and a first aid cabinet are against this bulkhead. The hatch leading down to 2 deck is on the right and a steel helmet locker is on the left.
