The type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Zulu (1962) alongside the Alexander Stephen & Sons Ltd fitting out berth at Linthouse, Glasgow during the final stages of building prior to 16 April 1964. The photographer is in the operations room between 42 and 45½ stations on 1 deck looking to starboard from the port side at 43 station. The gun direction officer's console is on the left and beyond is the desk for three signalmen. The Admiralty Research Laboratory plotting table is on the right. Under the stairs leading up to 1 deck are a cupboard, a radar on/off switch box and an automatic emergency lantern. The commanding officer's instrument panel including a telephone handset, a loudspeaker and a speed and bearing repeater is beyond the stairs and against the ship's side is the navigator's table with a depth recorder repeater unit above it.
