The type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Zulu (1962) alongside the Alexander Stephen & Sons Ltd fitting out berth at Linthouse, Glasgow during the final stages of building prior to 16 April 1964. The photographer is in the aft 4.5 inch handing room and gun crew's shelter between 74½ and 76 stations on 1 deck looking to starboard showing the door into the hangar, two folding seats, an electric fire and a first aid locker marked NR on the left. Four cable and rope reels are under the deckhead. The door to the 4.5 inch ready use magazine is on the starboard side with the smoke grenade locker above it and another cable reel alongside it. The shell and cartridge hoists are on the right and against the aft bulkhead are a rope stowage shelf, wire strops, a magazine hand lamp locker, a telephone handset and an emergency first aid cabinet.
