The photographer is in the steering gear compartment between 85 and 95 stations on 2 deck looking to starboard from 86 station on the port side. The steering gear, manufactured by John Hastie & Co Ltd of Greenock, serial H.G. 6804-5, is protected by a wire cage. Storage racks are against the side of the ship. Starter panels and a cable stowage bracket are against the forward bulkhead.
