The photographer is in the forward 4.5 inch magazine and shell room between 37 and 41 stations on the port side of 4 deck looking to port and slightly aft showing the two shell and cartridge hoists. On the left are the shell racks and on the right are the bottle racks for the cartridges. Against the ship's side is a rack for the storage of five drill shells.
