The type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Zulu (1962) alongside the Alexander Stephen & Sons Ltd fitting out berth at Linthouse, Glasgow during the final stages of building prior to 16 April 1964. The photographer is in the conversion machinery room between 45 and 48 stations on the starboard side of 4 deck looking aft and to port showing an amplidyne and a 1KVA motor generator fixed to the deck on the left with a full height cupboard beyond them. Two motor generators by Small Electric Motors Ltd of Beckenham, Kent, are in the centre of the room. Against the port bulkhead are a motor generator, a choke unit, a starter, three voltage regulators and a Small Electric Motors Ltd excitation unit. Against the aft bulkhead are a ventilation fan and trunking, a starter, two transformers and fuse panels.
