On board the type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Ashanti (1959) alongside North Corner Jetty in Portsmouth Dockyard during her September 1968 to April 1970 refit. The photographer is in the wardroom between 50 and 56 stations on the port side of 1 deck looking aft and to starboard showing the lounge area with a large bookcase on the left next to the door. Armchairs and a coffee table are in the centre and a settee bench lines the bulkheads. A television set is on the settee bench in the corner. An electric fire is in the centre of the aft bulkhead and a tribal seat and a large ship's bell from the previous Ashanti are in front of it. A clock is reading 3.32 and above the fire is a framed painting of the previous HMS Ashanti under air attack, presumably during the passage of a convoy on the Russian Arctic route in 1942 or between November and December 1943.
