On board the type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Ashanti (1959) alongside North Corner Jetty in Portsmouth Dockyard during her September 1968 to April 1970 refit. The photographer is in the crew's 3E mess between 41 and 45 stations on the starboard side of 3 deck looking aft on the port side showing a triple tier bunk unit, a number of kit lockers and a greatcoat cupboard. Stairs leading up to 2 deck are on the right. An automatic emergency lantern, a fire extinguisher, an hose and a smoke mask are against the forward bulkhead. A vertical format negative.
