A meeting between two groups of uniformed figures on a rocky shore with ships firing a salute in the background

This drawing was acquired in 1953 with PAD8395 and both are probably Crimean War subjects. This one is signed and dated (in Italian) and shows a man in civilian dress landing from a boat and greeting an assembly of military or naval figures on a rocky beach, with warships offshore behind. To the right sailors haul in a line which appears to be connected to another boat offshore in the middle distance. While the incident is unidentified it might represent Bossoli's own landing in the Crimea, though the circumstances of that are not known. Bossoli was a Swiss landscape artist (1815-84). [PvdM 9/10]
