On board the type 81 general purpose frigate HMS Ashanti (1959) alongside North Corner Jetty in Portsmouth Dockyard during her September 1968 to April 1970 refit. The photographer is in the crew's and marines' 3G mess between 50 and 56 stations on 3 deck looking aft from the centre of the mess at 53 station showing kit lockers, full height lockers, suitcase lockers and mess lockers. The stairs leading up to 2 deck are just to starboard of the centreline. A fire extinguisher, two fuse panels and an automatic emergency lantern are against the aft bulkhead.
