Embarquement des troupes piemontaises a Genes pour L'Oriente [Embarkment of Piedmontese troops at Genoa for the East]

Signed by artist, this oval format drawing drawing has previously been dated to the years shown and though further details are required it probably relates to the Crimean War. The late-16th-century lighthouse of Genoa (il Faro) which is still the port's great landmark, though now within reclaimed land rather than right on the edge of the harbour, is shown on the right. Bossoli (1815-84) was a well-known Swiss landscape artist, working in oil and watercolour. This drawing was acquired in 1951 with PAD8393, which also may be a Crimean War subject, though the Museum only has one Bossoli bird's-eye view print which is deifinitely identified as such (G236:6/6).
